What is Tendinitis?
A tendon is the flexible band of fibrous tissue which connects muscles to bones in your body. Tendinitis is the inflammation of a particular tendon. This condition can cause tenderness and pain outside of your joints. While tendonitis can occur in any of your body’s tendons, the most common places for tendonitis are around your knees, elbows, wrists, heels and shoulders.
Some common names for tendinitis problems are as follows:
- Swimmer’s Shoulder
- Tennis Elbow
- Golfer’s Elbow
- Jumper’s Knee
- Pitcher’s Shoulder
If you have any of the aforementioned conditions, it is likely that you have tendinitis to some degree. While tendinitis can be painful and aggravating, there are viable, non-surgical treatment options that can help reduce pain and inflammation and return your joint to its normal range of motion and functionality.
There are many successful ways to treat tendinitis, and in most cases, a little rest and some physical therapy can help you feel back to your normal self. On the contrary, if tendinitis goes untreated, it can become more severe and lead to a rupture of your tendon, or you may need surgical repair and long-term medications to reduce pain. The condition only worsens and becomes more severe over time, so it is important to treat tendinitis early.
